Neela Biotech

Turning Waste into Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Neela Biotech is a Cambridge-based biotech start-up transforming food, agricultural and forestry waste into feedstocks for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Its AI-guided microbial process produces fatty acids, a key input for HEFA-based SAF, while leveraging existing biogas infrastructure to enable a more scalable and cost-effective route to sustainable fuel production, with a pathway towards cost parity with fossil jet fuel as it scales.

Why we invested

Neela Biotech is tackling a critical bottleneck in sustainable aviation fuel production: feedstock availability. By unlocking abundant waste streams as a new source of SAF feedstocks while using infrastructure that already exists at scale, the company has the potential to accelerate SAF adoption, strengthen energy security and create value across the aviation fuel supply chain.
